Summer Steez

Written by Gracie McGuire
We all know the feeling when you un strap your bindings for the final time of the season, you have tears streaming down your cheeks slowly causing a fog to rise from the bottom of your lens, blurring your vision.  You look to the mountains as the sun slowly disappears and you wish to believe that the reason for your despair is your inability to shred for the next few months, but you know deep down that it’s not that you can no longer snowboard, it’s the fact that you don’t know what to wear in the summer.  You think about your wardrobe and feel lost and confused. In snowboard season its okay to wear tall tees and beanies at all hours. But now it’s June, your head is hot, your getting awkward tall tee tan lines, you don’t know what to do, and you know it’s only going to get worse. This terrible situation affects all walks of shred: guys and girls.  Guys, we know it’s hard, but you can easily...[read more]

Liquid Mountaineering?

Written by Aaron Ezman

A couple of days ago some friends of mine showed me this video. The contents reveal several men that have learned how to actually run on water! Is such a gnarly thing actually possible? After studying the video several times...

Kilian Martin: A Skate Escalation

Written by Captain Safety

This video reminds us of flat-land Freestyle.  Is this the new age?  This style and creative imagination brings back fond memories of skate boarding greats Natis Kaupis, Mark Gonzales, and Rodney Mullen.  We feel the most impressive part of this style of skateboarding is how much board control is shown through creativity.  Kilian Martin's imagination is gnarly.  Definitely worth a looooook.

Just the other day, a member of the So-Gnar community spotted a Barcode Critter posted up at the Espresso Royale Coffee Shop in Boulder CO.  Thanks for the pic!  Global takeover.

Is Afganistan the US's 51st State?

Written by Pat Milbery
It looks like we just adopted our 51st state, especially since we just sent another 30,000 troops back over to their country. 1 TRILLION DOLLARS worth of "Untapped" mineral deposits in Afghanistan, that could almost put a dent in the rough estimate of $13 trillion dollars of United States of America Debt. Just a quick little article for you folks to chew on, especially when I was wondering why we continue to send troops over seas to Afghanistan for all these years...Makes me wonder why this war is still going on, and when it will ever end??? Interesting motives and definitely gnarly...

More Green Graffiti Spotted!

Written by Captain Safety
Some new SO-GNAR art spotted.  This new sighting is just outside Arapahoe Basin in Colorado. It is a large BILLBOARD sized piece, it looks like it spans about 30 feet in height to roughly 60 feet in width.  We assume it would be fair to consider this to be ALL-NATURAL and quite genius.  This massive piece was made by a unknown artist. We don't know if they made the graffiti for So-Gnar, but we sure as hell know that this graffiti can be claimed as a great concept for our movement, as we are So-Gnar. The graffiti is green because it's 100% organic, and natural. So if you are a cop, or anti-graffiti activist , - go screw your self.

Krush Kulesza is one heck of a person.  He owns and operates an event company called Snowboy Productions based out of Seattle, Washington. You may recognize a few of his events such as the Downtown Throwdown in Seattle, Holy Oly Revival at Hyak Resort and the Backyard Bang in Portland. Krush and his crew are also behind the Terrain park at Snoqualmie Resort in Washington.  They conceptualize, build, manage and groom the terrain park.  They are on top of their game, and constantly battling the varying weather off the Pacific Northwest.  Krush works closely with the Think Thank crew, The Snowboarder Magazine folks, the People crew and has help build a organic scene for the Northwest.  Especially with all the support he has provided for a young generation of riders and helping build many new careers.

I was able to sit down with Krush in between a few drop ins at a Think Thank Shoot this spring and ask him a few questions about life, his new son and his journey that has brought him to where he is today.  Check out his site, www.snowboyproductions.us and definitely try to attend anything Snowboy is involved with, they are one heck of a good time.  We look forward to the future with Krush.

More International Media Coverage

Written by Pat Milbery

From the magazine racks of Japan, comes FREERUN MAGAZINE.  These shots were taken right here in the heartland of the good old USA, and selected by the editors of FreeRun.  First off, Snowboarder's are not famous!  I don't care how you attempt your validation, it's simply snowboarding.  It's a bad habit...well kinda, but simply because it's addictive and it ruins any dreams of filling one of society's normal job positions.  Like a lawyer, a navy seal, or owning a Medicinal Marijuana Dispensary, snowboarding serves the greatest purpose in my life!  It makes me happy.  Being Happy rules!  So go snowboard, and think about me when you are trying to get famous doing something society will validate your fame for.  I earned mine through trying my best NOT to be famous, and making art through snowboarding, which in return made me happy.
